For those of you that don’t know, Kevin and I love to ride our bikes on the weekends. It’s not only great exercise, but it’s also a great way to see what’s happening in NSB and Edgewater.
The best part is that Florida has passed their “Rails to Trails” program where they take old railroad tracks that are no longer in use, and turn them into biking and pedestrian trails. (Pretty awesome, right?!)
We’ve been watching Edgewater do just that on an old track that runs alongside Park Avenue for the past year. The other day, I was curious as to when we could ride on this new trail, so I went into Edgewater City Hall to find out. As it turns out, it is open to the public now. (Oh, Happy Day!!)! I was so freakin’ excited, I immediately ran home to tell Kevin!
The next day, we rode our bikes along the new trail. It starts across the street from Rotary Park at Dale Ave and the trail ends just after you cross the bridge over SR 442 at Cow Creek… It is 11 miles round trip.
Now, I will tell you that without a doubt, this was the most beautiful bike trail that I have been on in both New Smyrna Beach and Edgewater. Just Gorgeous! The trees form a beautiful canopy over most of the trail that makes even the hottest of days pleasant and enjoyable.
OH…and the bridge that takes you over 442? Make sure that you stop at the top and check out what they did!
Do you see it?….those are some of the old rails from the tracks that were pulled up. I love that they did that!
Edgewater…you get an A+ for the work you did on this trail! I have told everyone about how wonderful it is and I highly recommend to all of my readers to go check it out. Phenomenal!! (On a side note, I should also get an A+ for correctly spelling “phenomenal”).
The official “Grand Opening” of the trail is tentatively scheduled for November 4th, but I will keep you posted on my Facebook page. Oh…and please stop by and like my Facebook page!
