About Michele Boyer, New Smyrna Beach / Edgewater Florida Realtor

My name is Michele and my husband, Kevin, and I moved to NSB/Edgewater 7 years ago and it was the best move we ever made. Seriously, we are so happy here. I can’t imagine why I had so many reservations about moving to Florida. Here’s how it happened…
It was the year 2011 and we lived in Houston, TX, when Kevin came home from work one day and simply said, “What do you think about Florida?”
My response was, “Wow, where did that come from?” and Kevin said, “Well, we’ve always talked about living on the water and Florida’s real estate market tanked. You can spit and find beachfront and oceanview property for nothing out there!”
Raised in Texas, my heart belonged to the Lonestar State and I could not imagine leaving my home, let alone our jobs. At that time I worked at a Bridal Salon selling wedding gowns and bridesmaid dresses. I loved my job!
Kevin’s job takes him all over the Gulf Coast states, so he can live in any of those places.
Kevin assured me I didn’t need to worry just yet. His only request was to keep an open mind and see what’s out there. I agreed and off we went to Daytona Beach, Florida to search waterfront homes.

(Ok…full disclosure…I wanted to look at homes in St. Augustine, but since Kevin was going to have to work out here, he needed to be more centrally located.)
We were both searching for homes. Me on Zillow, and him on Craigslist. We had a realtor that was also searching, but since I had no idea what I wanted or where I wanted it, we were helping him out. I found a great house on Zillow and showed Kevin while he found a house he really liked on Craigslist and showed me. Turns out…you guessed it…it was the same house!
I wasn’t sure about the location since I’d never heard of the town before. I told Kevin, “It seems to be on the border of Edgewater and New Sm… New *something* Beach. Is that a good location?”
“Don’t know…I’ve never driven through there,” he said.
Off we went to see the house on the river. Kevin immediately fell in love and with the promise of a new kitchen, I was then also in love. However, I still wasn’t sold on leaving Texas. I mean, my family, friends, my job, my whole life was in Houston.
What I saw of Florida seemed great, but I was unsure. I did love that house though, so I said, “What the hell…let’s do it!”.
We had no idea about the paradise we had just landed in. We bought the house and during the first two years traveled back and forth between Texas and Florida with our dog and cat in tow. Every month we were in a different state.
The first month here we explored the area, spent time out on the water and the beach, and by the end of the month we were hooked. By the end of the second year, this Texas Girl had had enough.
We had just pulled out of our driveway here in Florida to go back to Texas when I said, “Wait…I forgot something!” When Kevin asked what I forgot, I wearily said, “I forgot that I don’t want to go back to Texas anymore.”
Kevin just laughed and said, “We’ll go back one more time and sell the house.”
So that’s how this Texas girl ended up being a Florida girl after all. I still love Texas and I always will, but I don’t belong there anymore. I have finally found “Home” without even realizing I was looking for it.
